This program explores an alternative nutrition pathway for broiler production by delivering essential amino acids through drinking water rather than relying solely on feed-based protein. By utilizing liquid hydrolyzed fish protein (HPI), the intervention targets inefficiencies in protein absorption, growth performance, and environmental management within closed-house broiler systems.

Implemented through on-farm trials, the program demonstrates how highly bioavailable amino acids can improve production efficiency, reduce mortality, enhance meat quality, and lower ammonia emissions. The results highlight HPI supplementation as a practical, scalable solution that aligns economic performance with environmental sustainability in modern poultry farming.

A field-tested initiative to optimize feed, growth and farm profitability

This program is a research-based intervention initiated by Berikan Protein Initiative in collaboration with PT. Berikan Teknologi Indonesia and PT. Sinergi Ketahanan Pangan (Chickin Indonesia) to evaluate the effectiveness of liquid hydrolyzed fish protein (HPI) supplementation through drinking water in broiler chickens. The program aims to improve production efficiency, meat quality, farm profitability, and environmental conditions without increasing feed dependency.

Problem Statement

The broiler industry faces persistent challenges related to high feed costs, inefficient protein utilization, and environmental pollution from nitrogen waste, while conventional feed-based protein strategies often fail to optimize growth and sustainability.

  • Feed accounts for 60–70% of total broiler production costs.
  • Inefficient protein digestion leads to nutrient loss and higher nitrogen excretion.
  • Poor feed conversion ratios (FCR) and mortality reduce farm profitability.
  • High ammonia levels negatively affect animal welfare and farm environments.

Solution We Offer

This program introduces liquid hydrolyzed fish protein (HPI) as a drinking water supplement to deliver highly bioavailable amino acids and bioactive peptides that enhance nutrient absorption and production efficiency.

  • Supplementation of liquid HPI via drinking water (0.05–0.1%).
  • Improved amino acid availability (>90% absorption) without increasing feed intake.
  • Enhanced gut health and immune response through bioactive peptides.
  • Reduced nitrogen excretion and ammonia emissions in closed-house systems.

Output Program

  • Boosts growth and feed efficiency up to 18% more weight gain and 14% better FCR.
  • Strengthens natural immunity, reducing antibiotics and cutting farmer health-management costs by 20%.
  • Helps farmers increase profitability by up to 37% compared to regular feed
  • Lowers carbon footprint by up to 40%, averaging 7.6 tons CO₂e saved per cycle.
  • Scaling up HPI supplementation trials across larger commercial broiler populations.
  • Integration of HPI into routine broiler management protocols.
  • Product positioning for premium, low-emission, and high-protein poultry production.
  • Further research on long-term environmental and welfare impacts.
